Funders & Stakeholders
Media Academy Cardiff has been established across Cardiff and the Vale since April 2010. It is a not for profit voluntary organisation working with children and young people who may need a little extra support. A dedicated and multi-disciplinary team work with up to 1000 young people a year from across SE Wales.
We have centres in Cardiff and Barry, working in partnership with approximately 150 statutory and voluntary agencies. Our different programmes primarily work with children and young people not in traditional forms of education and also young people who are at risk of entering the criminal justice system. We also have a very active arts programme providing free activities (drama, music and singing) for around 200 children each year.
Our educational programmes aim to equip young people with the skills and motivation to either return to school or to make a positive transition to training or employment. Our Triage programme (the only one operating in Wales), aims to divert young people from the criminal justice system and stop them getting stigmatised with a criminal record. The work at MAC has already won numerous awards and is regularly cited as an exceptional provision by youth justice agencies and educational establishments across the UK. If you would like any further information please contact the team.
“Before coming to music at MAC, spent my time on the streets, I was always told and seen as a trouble maker in my area. I wasn’t a troublemaker, I was bored with nothing to do.
MAC gave me access to a music studio which was a positive for me. It also helped show my carers that I had talent and the school saw that I was good at something.
The CD I made at MAC helped me get into college it was the only positive thing I had to show”.
