This new initiative is to identify challenging 'real' student placement opportunities for students studying on appropriate pathways across the South Wales Police force area, and is funded by the Office of South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner. The aim is to empower higher academic students to become experienced and skilled practitioners developing a workforce prepared to meet the many challenges in this demanding field. The students will gain an in-depth knowledge of an operating and organisational context by undertaking authentic and stimulating work as part of their placements within host organisations.
Benefits to organisations hosting students are many but include help building capacity and resilience within the host organisation and wider workforce, research opportunities for evidencing impact, and the ability of your organisation to support the development of a skilled workforce for South Wales. To ensure successful placements a skill audit will be implemented with the student and host organisation, ensuring needs and expectations are best matched from the outset.
The scheme will also offer pre-placement training plans for all students and mentoring support will also be available throughout their placements.
